Be You, Everyone Else is Taken

When I was 4 years old, I received a wizard dress-up outfit for my birthday. There was a star wand with some streamers and magenta satin cape šŸ˜

I saw that magenta cape and immediately knew what needed to happen.

On Monday: I proudly wore my magenta satin as a cape. Obviously šŸ˜‰

On Tuesday: I wore it as a skirt (over spandex, of course).

On Wednesday: I wore it like a kaffiyeh (Arabian headdress).

As Iā€™m told, on that Wednesday Colin, my preschool carpool buddy mockingly said, ā€œare you really gonna wear that?ā€

To which I asserted,

ā€œColin, it is not nice to make fun of people for what they wear.ā€

I marched into class and wore my magenta headdress all day without a second thought. That little girl had confidence.

We all that little girl inside us somewhere.

So, if you find yourself struggling to summon the courage to be your authentically awesome self, just remember:

Wear your headdress or fly your flag.

The people to matter, wonā€™t mind. And the people who mind, wonā€™t matter.
